From the beginning of 2023, Kyrgyzstan will enter the Developing Countries Trade Scheme (DCTS) and will be able to export more than 8,000 goods to the UK without customs duties or at reduced tariffs.
Fabian Hartwell and Karen Johnson, trade advisers of the British Foreign Office, visited Bishkek on November 28 specifically to explain this scheme and its peculiarities. They held an information session for Kyrgyz business associations, and also met with representatives of the Ministry of Economy and the National Investment Agency.
“Today, very few goods from Kyrgyzstan are imported to the UK. While we (the United Kingdom) are one of the key markets in the world. British private business is constantly looking for new products around the world or more favourable supplies of already familiar products from other countries. And British customs – new opportunities for the delivery of goods to the UK. Zero customs tariff will be applied to all goods from Kyrgyzstan,” Johnson said.
Also, representatives of the British Foreign Office said that the certification of DCTS goods will continue to be based on the EU REX system used by Kyrgyzstan since July 1, 2020.
According to Fabian Hartwell, the following products from the Kyrgyz Republic have the greatest potential in the UK market:
– textiles;
– linen and linen products;
– clothes;
– dried fruits;
– nuts;
– honey.
